PRESS RELEASE • 1 FEBRUARY 2011
CRV acquires Xseed Genetics
Cattle improvement organisation CRV has acquired the South African semen sales organisation Xseed Genetics. As of February 1, the company will be renamed 'CRV Xseed'. The acquisition increases the breeding opportunities for both the current and future customers of CRV Xseed and strengthens the international position of CRV. Both partners - CRV and Xseed - have now reached an agreement to join forces. Xseed Genetics is an organisation with a substantial market share in the South African bovine semen market. It's head office is located in Bloemfontein. Since June 2006 Xseed has also been selling semen from CRV bulls as a part of its portfolio.

New opportunities
For Xseed customers, the backbone of CRV means they will benefit from gaining access to CRV's breadth of genetic products and technological know-how in the field of dairy and beef breeding. Roy Dixon, managing director, shared owner and representative of the shareholders of Xseed said: "Because CRV is one of the international leaders in cattle improvement we will be able to provide South African farmers with access to advanced Holstein and Jersey breeding programmes for free stall as well as grazing systems. South African dairy and beef farmers will benefit at an early stage from the investments already made in new technologies, such as genomics for example."

Strategic importance
The market circumstances in South Africa fit the activities and strategy of CRV very well, according  to  CRV's  CEO  Roald  van  Noort.   He said:  "The South African farmers are real

enterpreneurs and used to reacting quickly to changing circumstances. We share their focus on high quality products and aim for progress in the widest sense. That is why we are very pleased to be able to further strengthen our relationship with Xseed's current team and customers. We want to support cattle breeders in the realisation of their goals while at the same time providing them with the high standard of service that they are used to." CRV sees the acquisition of Xseed as an important step in the further development of the company in a consolidating breeding industry. Steps like these enable CRV to develop innovative and targeted farm solutions, as well as make them more accessible to breeders in many countries.
